Frequently Asked Questions About Mail-in Repair
Is mail-in repair safe for my console or laptop?
Yes — mail-in repair is the safest way to get your device fixed without driving to a shop. We’ve repaired thousands of devices by mail since 2018. Every package is photographed on intake (box + serial number + device condition) before any work begins. We carry insurance through USPS and ship every return with tracking. Our 95%+ first-time fix rate is consistent across all mail-in repairs, and we back every repair with a 90-day warranty. The most common issue we see is shipping damage from poor packaging — which is why we publish detailed packing instructions at /how-to-ship-a-ps5-safely/.
How long does mail-in repair take?
From the day we receive your device: most repairs complete in 1-3 business days. Add 1-3 days for outbound shipping (USPS Priority Mail) and 1-3 days for return shipping (free, USPS Priority). Total turnaround from when you ship your device: 3-7 business days. Rush service is available for an extra $30 — same-day repair when possible, with same-day return shipping.
How much does mail-in repair cost?
Pricing depends on the device and repair. Common ranges: PS5 HDMI port $99-$149 (with our $30 trace-repair upgrade available); Xbox HDMI $79-$129; Nintendo Switch HDMI $79-$149; MacBook logic board $69-$149+; Surface Pro charging port $159-$249+; iPhone charging port $79-$129. Most repairs fall in the $80-$200 range. The firm quote after intake is exactly what you pay — no surprise charges. Free return shipping is included.
Do you ship return shipping free?
Yes — return shipping is free on all approved repairs. We use USPS Priority Mail with tracking. Outbound shipping is $12 via our prepaid label, or you can ship on your own and we’ll deduct $12 from your repair cost. We recommend our prepaid label for insurance and tracking purposes.
What if you can’t fix my device?
If we cannot fix your device (rare — under 5% of intakes), you pay nothing. We ship the device back to you free of charge. If a partial repair is possible but full repair isn’t, we email you with options: (a) accept the partial repair at a reduced cost, (b) return the device unrepaired, or (c) discuss trade-in / recycle options.
Can I mail in a device from any US state?
Yes — we accept mail-in repairs from all 50 US states. We’ve repaired devices from Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, California, Texas, and everywhere in between. International repairs are possible on a case-by-case basis (Canada, Puerto Rico, US military APO/FPO) — email us first to confirm. Most US customers use USPS Priority Mail which delivers in 1-3 days anywhere in the country.
What if my device gets damaged in shipping to you?
All packages shipped via USPS Priority Mail include $100 of insurance for free. For high-value devices (PS5, MacBook Pro, Surface Pro), we recommend purchasing additional insurance ($200-$500) at the post office when you ship. We photograph the box on arrival before opening — if the box shows external damage, we document it and contact you before opening. We have never lost a device to shipping damage in our history.
Do you repair devices under manufacturer warranty?
No — mail-in repair is for out-of-warranty devices only. If your device is still under manufacturer warranty (typically 1 year from purchase), contact the manufacturer first. Common warranty repair paths: Sony PlayStation (1 year), Microsoft Xbox (1 year), Apple MacBook (1 year), Microsoft Surface (1 year), Apple iPhone (1 year). After the manufacturer warranty expires, mail-in repair is usually faster and cheaper than manufacturer out-of-warranty service.
