How ShipToFix Mail-In Repair Works — Step by Step
ShipToFix is an insured mail-in console, laptop, and electronics repair service based in Port Orange, Florida. We’ve been repairing devices by mail since 2018 with a 95%+ first-time fix rate. Here’s the complete process — from your first email to your device arriving back at your door.
Step 1: Get a Repair Quote
Email [email protected] with:
- Your device model (e.g., “PS5 CFI-1215A” or “MacBook Pro 15-inch 2018”)
- What’s wrong (e.g., “HDMI port loose, no display on TV”)
- When the issue started
- Any history (dropped, liquid spill, lightning storm)
We respond within a few business hours with an estimated price range. If we’re confident it’s a specific repair, we give a firm price. If we need to diagnose first, we explain that the diagnostic is free and you’ll get a firm quote within 24 hours of receiving your device.
Step 2: Box Your Device
Good packaging is the difference between a device arriving safely and a device arriving as a paperweight. Here’s what works:
- Use a sturdy box — at least 2-3 inches of padding on every side. A device rattling around in a tight box = damaged device.
- Wrap in bubble wrap — at least 2 layers, fully taped. Pay special attention to corners and ports.
- Fill empty space — crumpled paper, packing paper, or foam. Not loose packing peanuts (they shift and let the device move).
- Include the power cable — we need it to test the device post-repair.
- For laptops — wrap in a plastic bag first (in case of any residual liquid), then bubble wrap.
- For consoles with disc drives — open the tray and put a piece of cardboard in the slot to prevent the laser assembly from moving.
- Print and include your name + email — so we can match the box to your repair ticket.
Step 3: Ship USPS Priority Mail
Ship to:
ShipToFix
725 Dunlawton Ave
Port Orange, FL 32129
+1-888-305-4364
USPS Priority Mail is the right choice — fast (1-3 days), trackable, and inexpensive ($12-$15 with our prepaid label option). Avoid UPS and FedEx for ground shipping unless your device is very heavy. We do not recommend USPS First Class for valuable devices — no insurance and slow.
We email a prepaid shipping label for $12 outbound shipping. The label is yours to print and stick on the box. Or ship on your own and we deduct the $12 from your repair cost.
Step 4: Intake and Firm Quote
When your device arrives, we:
- Photograph the box condition and serial number
- Photograph the device on intake
- Run a full diagnostic (free, no fee)
- Email you a firm written quote within 24 hours
The firm quote tells you exactly what we’ll do, what parts we need, and the total cost. Nothing happens until you reply to approve.
Step 5: Repair
Once you approve the quote:
- Repair begins immediately (usually same day for in-stock parts)
- Most repairs complete in 1-3 business days
- We test the device post-repair to confirm the fix
- We photograph the repair for our records
If we discover additional issues during repair (rare), we email you before proceeding with anything not in the original quote. No surprise charges.
Step 6: Free Return Shipping
All approved repairs ship back free via USPS Priority Mail. We email you the tracking number the day your device ships.
Total turnaround from USPS drop-off to delivery back at your door: 3-5 business days for most repairs.
What If We Can’t Fix Your Device?
Our fix rate is 95%+, but sometimes a device is beyond repair (severe board damage, unrecoverable data, obsolete parts). If we can’t fix it:
- You pay only the return shipping ($12)
- No diagnostic fee
- No restocking fee
- We explain what we found and why we couldn’t repair it
- If data recovery was the goal, we may still be able to recover data from a “dead” device — ask us
Local Drop-Off Alternative
If you’re in the Volusia County / Central Florida area, you can drop off in person at our Port Orange shop. Many HDMI and USB port repairs are done same-day for walk-ins. Call +1-888-305-4364 ahead to confirm a technician is on site.
